Apple’s iPhone rise to
popularity has quickly made it the most popular camera in the world - it
became the most popular camera on Flickr three years ago, and since
then the adoption of iPhones has only grown. Moreover, the actual
quality of the camera has also increased significantly, as Apple has
been very consistent in making the iPhone camera faster, increasing the
sensor size, and refining the quality of the images.
We would
not go as far as to claim that the iPhone is the best camera phone out
there - after all, heavyweights like the Nokia Lumia 1020, the Sony
Xperia Z2, Samsung’s Galaxy S5, and the LG G3, but even older devices
often capture better-looking and more detailed images than the iPhone
5s, but we’re not here to argue about the technicalities. Instead, we’ll
focus on the best photographs captured on Apple’s iPhone in the last
year, curated by the annual iPhone Photography Awards.
The
contest gives that runs from 2007, gives out three ‘photographer of the
year’ medals, awarding each of the winners with an iPad Air. It also has
17 categories where the winner gets an award. It’s a celebration of
creativity, an inspiring set of images, showing just how much you can do
nowadays with the camera of a smartphone. Take a look at the winners
below, and hit the source link at the bottom to see all the honorable
mentions.
