Check out the most "megapixel-rich" smartphones of 2014

When it comes to digital photography, more isn't always better and a high megapixels count is usually not paving the way for better looking photos. But then again, it seems that people are generally wont to fancy smartphones that are well-endowed in this aspect. Some of the more popular devices that got released during 2014 are, surely, not boasting cameras with an extremely high megapixel count, but are comfortably nestled in the golden middle, packing a relatively large sensor, potent optics, and spot-on software optimization.

Provided that you are, however, looking for the largest number possible, then you're surely covered - in 2014, we had a surplus of well-endowed smartphones, the cameras of which had a large megapixel count. As the year's about to be over soon, we decided to make a round-up of the smartphones with the largest cameras from 2014. Check them out below.

1. Nokia Lumia 930/Nokia Lumia Icon - 20MP

 

Both the Nokia Lumia 930 and its twin, the Lumia Icon, make use of 20MP cameras, which are surely held dear by their fans.

2. Panasonic Lumix CM1 - 20MP

It will be safe to say that Panasonic took one of their top-end point-and-shoot cameras and employed with it phone functions - the device is arguably the best camera-centric phone of 2014, provided that we only take raw specs into account.

3. Motorola DROID Turbo - 20.7MP

The extremely potent champ of Motorola does not only boast a powerful chipset and battery, but a potent camera as well. It can produce 20.7MP images, which is more than enough, right? 

4. Samsung Galaxy K Zoom - 20.7MP

The K Zoom, Samsung's mix between an Android smartphone and a point-and-shoot camera is one of the more uncommon devices of the year that will surely entice the photography devotees with its 20.7MP snapper.

5. Meizu MX4 - 20.7MP

Meizu's regular flagship, the MX4, is a noteworthy all-around device that has a lot of bells and whistles in its bag, among which resides a hefty 20.7MP snapper.

6. Meizu MX4 Pro - 20.7MP

Just like its mundane relative, the extra-potent, Quad HD MX4 Pro is sporting a similarly-sized 20.7MP shooter at its back. We had a few gripes with it, but in general hardly disappoints.

7. Sony Xperia Z3 - 20.7MP

Sony's current flagship, the Xperia Z3, is a sporting a hefty camera as well. At 20.7MP, it's one of the larger ones to arrive in 2014.

8. Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - 20.7MP

The more compact sibling of the Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3 Compact, is smaller just in size - it has retained almost all of the specs of its larger counterpart, along with the 20.7MP shooter at the back.

9. Sony Xperia Z2 - 20.7MP

Okay, we get it - Sony likes the number 20.7, that's why you'd generally find such a camera at the back of most of its recent devices, including the former flagship, the Sony Xperia Z2...

10. Sony Xperia Z1 - 20.7MP

... and the Sony Xperia Z1, the company's third flagship for 2014, which also sports such a shooter.
