HTC has given an increased amount of attention to the front-facing cameras of its latest smartphones. The One M8, One Mini 2, One E8 and Desire 816 (pictured
above) all feature 5MP cameras on the front, promising to let you take
“the best selfies.” Thus, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to hear that
HTC may be readying a “selfie phone.”
According to @evleaks, AT&T is already testing this selfie phone, and it’s calling it HTC Eye. Unfortunately, there are no images of the handset, and no details on its features. But we’re thinking that HTC could use a front-facing camera with a higher megapixel count for this device. It wouldn’t be the first to do so - for example, Huawei’s Ascend P7 comes with an 8MP secondary camera, in addition to a 13MP rear snapper.
There is no word on when the HTC Eye (assuming that this is its final name) will be released. Also, we don’t know if HTC intends to launch the handset exclusively on AT&T, or if it plans to commercialize it worldwide. In any case, we’ll keep an eye on this Eye, and let you know when new info about it is available.
