Yesterday, HTC unveiled its newest smartphone yesterday, the selfie-centric HTC Desire EYE with the gigantic 13MP front snapper, the unorthodox HTC RE handheld camera, and the HTC EYE Experience software.
The latter, in particular, will bring a bevy of novel camera features
to a slew of HTC devices, namely the HTC One, One (E8), One mini, One
mini 2, One max, Desire 816, Desire 820, and Butterfly 2. Of course, the
HTC One (M8) flagship also got an invitation to the party. HTC
initially said that said update will roll out sometime in the following
months, but it seems that the One (M8) is already receiving it in
certain regions.
The HTC EYE Experience arrives hand in hand with Android 4.4.4 KitKat, the most recent version of Google's mobile platform. The latter brings about a lot of performance updates and improvements, but frankly said, HTC's new camera software is a lot more interesting. It flaunts a number of the new features that adorn the HTC Desire EYE - Face Tracking, which allows the front-facing camera of the One (M8) to track the faces of up to 4 people and keep them in focus; Split Capture, a feature that makes use of both the front and the rear cameras and combines the resulting image into a handy collage; and Face Fusion, a feature that allows you to make a mashup between your selfie and another portrait image.
The update weighs in at 252 MB and is rolling over-the-air and is already rolling out in certain regions. We don't know if this is a partial test release or just the beginning of a global rollout, so we can say how long you'll have to wait before Android 4.4.4 with HTC EYE Experience lands on your HTC One (M8).
