Lenovo is going big with its new line of Yoga Tablets. In addition
to the refreshed Yoga Tablet 2 series, the company announced a new,
super-sized 13-inch tablet called the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro. In addition to
have a much larger screen than any other Yoga tablet, it also comes
equip with a handy, built-in Pico projector that can display content on
walls or any other surface. The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro will available
at the end of the month, starting at $499.99.
The Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is powered by the same 1.86GHz Intel Atom
Z3745 processor as the updated Yoga Tablet 2s, and it comes with 32GB of
storage, expandable to 64GB via Micro USB. It runs Android v4.4 KitKat
and promises a battery life of 15 hours, with optional 4G capabilities.
It’s 2.09-pound weight is justification for the Yoga Tablet 2
Pro’s 13-inch, QHD 2560 x 1440 display, which is made for watching TV
shows and movies, or even flipping through photos and images. Like the
rest of the Yoga Tablet line, the Pro features the same Stand, Tilt, and
Hold positions, as well as the new Hang position that lets you use the
hole in the tablet’s kickstand to turn the device into a suspended
screen.
While the larger screen lets you watch even more of your favorite media,
the standout feature of the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is its built-in Pico
projector, which enhances those capabilities even more. Embedded into
one of the corners, the Pico projector has a 40-50 lumen, 854 x 480
resolution display and can project a 16:9 high resolution image onto any
surface, creating up to a 50-inch viewing screen. When we played with
the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro for a short period of time, the projector was
responsive and clear, and it has a small dial that allows you to adjust
the focus of the image to make it as clear and sharp as you want.
Lenovo promises the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro’s projector can get three
hours of playback time on a single charge, which would be more than
enough time to watch a feature length movie or a few episodes of your
favorite Netflix show. In addition, the viewing experience is enhanced
with Dolby Audio and Wolfson Master HiFi via the tablet’s
front-facing dual, large-chamber speakers and subwoofer on the back,
making it the closest thing to a theater-like experience that a tablet
could provide.
Combine the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro’s projector abilities with the new
Hang feature, which lets you hang the tablet from a hole in its
kickstand, and this device could prove to be a supplement to a family’s
home entertainment system. The Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is large enough to
suffice as an impromptu TV or movie screen for kids who want to watch
their favorite show in their bedrooms, or an on-the-go screen for the
back of a car seat during long drives.
However, we’ll have to see if all of these features can make the
large form factor popular with consumers. Back in 2012, Toshiba came out
with the Excite 13-inch tablet, but it didn’t make enough of a splash
to fully popularize the 13-inch tablet model. It’s possible that with
its budget price and flashy features, the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro could
make large tablets more enticing.
The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro will be available at the end of the month and will start at $499.99.
