Samsung has launched a rugged smartphone called “Galaxy Active Neo” in Japan. Apparently, the Neo is a relatively upgraded version of the Galaxy Xcover 3 and a substantially downgraded version of the Galaxy S6 Active, Phone Arena reported.

Speaking of Galaxy Active Neo specifications, this mid-range handset comes with a pocket-friendly 4.5-inch TFT LCD display, aided by 480 x 800 pixels screen resolution. Under the hood, a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 410) processor powers the device and it comes backed by 2 GB of RAM. On the software front, it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, straight out of the box.

Similar to the traditional “Active” lineup of Samsung, the Galaxy Active Neo also comes with an equivalent of IP 67 certification. This means, the handset is dust- and water-resistant.

Apart from dust and water resistance, the phone is also impact proof and it comes bundled with resistance to low temperature, moisture and sea water endurance, according to Engadget. To top it off, the device reportedly conforms to “21 items of the US Department of Defense procurement standard MIL-Spec.”

Apart from the standard connectivity options, the Neo also support 4G LTE. There is an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera unit, in addition to a modest 2-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies. Potential buyers will reportedly receive 100 GB of free OneDrive storage space for a total of 2 years.

When it comes to memory specification, the Galaxy Active Neo comes equipped with a solid 16 GB of built-in storage space and microSD card slot for further expansion. Lastly, a 2,200 mAh battery helps keep the lights on.

As far as Samsung Galaxy Active Neo price goes, the device will reportedly cost $168, without a contract. The handset will hit the store shelves in early November via Japan’s major telecom NTT DoCoMo. However, there is no official information available to ascertain the device's release outside Japan.
