Sony’s Xperia Z
series of smartphones ended with the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and
Xperia Z5 Premium in 2015. The Japanese tech giant introduced a new
series — Xperia X — at the Mobile World Congress 2016 and launched three
devices under this brand — Xperia X, Xperia X Performance and Xperia
XA.
It turns out that apart from those three handsets, there is another device, named “Sony Xperia X Premium,” scheduled to be released sometime in the near future. This smartphone is believed to be the successor of the Xperia Z5 Premium from last year which flaunted a 4K screen resolution.
According to Phone Radar, the upcoming Xperia X Premium will also have a one-of-a-kind screen, thanks to the “HDR display.” This particular display is quite common among TVs, but HDR display would be a first in the smartphone world.
The high dynamic range display has the ability to show 1.07 billion colors, while other high-end handsets released so far can display a maximum of only 16.8 million colors, GSM Arena noted.
Apart from the brilliant display, the Sony Xperia X Premium will reportedly come with 120 Hz refresh rate, complete with 2000:1 contrast ratio. To top it off, this device will reportedly feature the brightest display panel, compared to any other mobile handset.
The Xperia X Premium will offer 1,000 nits of "white brightness," with a maximum capacity of 1,300 nits. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S7’s display offers only 539 nits.
As far as the rumored specifications go, Xperia X Premium will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, backed by 3GB of RAM. In addition to the standard connectivity options, a USB Type-C connector will also be part of the device. It is believed to have a 5.5-inch Whitemagic LCD display, bundled with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
