To celebrate the new achievement, Xiaomi released a champagne gold version of the Mi3 - pictured on the left. Although the Mi3 is available in several Asian markets, this new version will be sold only in China.
Being Xiaomi’s flagship, the Mi3 is also its most expensive handset. However, it’s significantly cheaper than the flagships of other companies, costing less than $300 (unlocked). Despite its low price, the Mi3 has a lot to offer, including a 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP rear camera, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 3,050 mAh battery. The smartphone uses Xiaomi’s own MIUI interface on top of Android Jelly Bean.
Later this year, Xiaomi will probably announce a successor to the Mi3, apparently called Mi3S. The company, which employs ex-Googler Hugo Barra as VP of global business, plans to sell a total of 60 million smartphones throughout 2014. Seeing how things are going thus far, Xiaomi will likely succeed in doing so - especially since it will soon enter new markets, including Europe and South America.
