The Samsung Galaxy Alpha, the latest Nexus 6 leaks, and the upcoming Motorola event: weekly news round-up

Another week has come and gone, meaning that it is time to take a second look at the most interesting stories from the past 7 days. Samsung made headlines last week with the announcement of the Galaxy Alpha – a phone that aims to impress mostly with its design. In fact, it is the company's slimmest Galaxy smartphone yet, and surely one of the better-looking ones. Too bad that it will be a month before the Samsung Galaxy Alpha becomes available. And speaking

of announcements, Motorola has something in stock for us. The company has an event scheduled for September 4, and from the looks of it, the rumored Motorola Moto X+1 is going to be the star of the show. Also, a successor to the Motorola Moto G is expected to be announced there.

Weekly news round-up

1. Samsung Galaxy Alpha is now official

And this beauty of a smartphone is the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Its thickness of just 6.7 millimeters makes it the thinnest Galaxy smartphone yet, and the premium materials it is built of rank it among the better-looking ones. Specs-wise, it offers a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display, an octa-core Exynos 5430 SoC, 2GB of RAM, and a 12MP camera. Just don't expect the Alpha to be cheap when it is launched on September 12.

 

2. First Samsung Galaxy Alpha camera samples

Soon after the Galaxy Alpha was announced, photo samples made with its 12MP camera started making the rounds. Take a look at them right here.

 

3. Motorola Shamu aka Nexus 6 full specs leak

The Motorola Shamu is a new, yet-unannounced smartphone that might as well turn out to be Google's next Nexus phone. Specs reveal that the handset could be one of the most capable around, with a Snapdragon 805 SoC and a QHD display.

 

4. Motorola holding event on September 4th

Yet the Shamu probably won't make an appearance during Motorola's September 4 event. Instead, we should see the Motorola Moto X+1, the Moto G2, and the Moto 360 smartwatch on stage. About the X+1, it is shaping up as the company's next Android flagship device, judging by its alleged hardware specifications.

 

 

5. Moto X+1 benchmark pass reveals 5.2" display, Snapdragon 800 processor

And here they are. If this benchmark result is to be trusted, the Motorola Moto X+1 will sport a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1080 by 1920, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC, 2GB of RAM, and a 12MP camera 

 

6. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 pops up on Indonesian e-store

Another interesting bit of news from last week was the premature release of this Samsung Galaxy Note 4 specs sheet, which appeared on an Indonesian online store. It pretty much confirms what we already expect - that the Note 4 will be a beast of a smartphone and that it won't be cheap once it is out.

 

7. Meet the 6-inch Samsung Galaxy Mega 2

And this jumbo-sized smartphone is the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2. It was spotted in the database of China's Telecommunications Equipment Certifications Center, alongside most of its specs. Its front is graced by a screen of almost 6 inches in size, and the processor inside it is a Qualcomm-made Snapdragon 410.

 

 

8. 5.5 inch "Apple iPhone 6L" to sport a 2915mAh battery

Last but not least, here's a leak allegedly revealing the battery capacities for the 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone models. The former is getting a 1810mAh battery, while the latter will rely on a much larger, 2915mAh cell. As long as the leak is legitimate, that is.
