On Thursday, we passed along some speculation about an October 15th update
that will take Android Wear to version 2.0. Today, on Friday, Google
posted a roadmap revealing its plans for updating the Android Wear
platform for the remainder of the year. Google has said that it would be
updating Android Wear often.
First on the roadmap is an update that will bring offline music playback and a GPS sensor to the watches. The update will allow music stored on an Android Wear powered watch, to be heard over Bluetooth headphones without the need for a smartphone to pair with. The next update will allow you to customize the face on your watch by changing the design. You can also decide to download a particular watch face that includes all of the information you want to see on your watch at one time. According to Google, watch faces are being worked on right now by developers, and will soon be available from the Google Play Store.
Google listed the latest watches that are using, or will be using, Android Wear. These models include the Motorola Moto 360, the Asus Zen Watch, the LG G Watch R and the Sony SmartWatch 3. All of these will be receiving the Android Wear updates, along with earlier Android Wear supported models like the Samsung Gear Live and the LG G Watch.
