A report published on Monday, says that the Apple iPad Air 2 will be the
thinnest tablet in the marketplace. That is because Apple is removing
the mute/rotation lock switch that has appeared on every iPad since the
OG model. That will take .5mm off the slate, making it svelte and
bathing suit ready. The Apple iPad Air 2 will also feature more recessed
volume buttons, and the microphones have been moved to the back near
the camera. One is to the left of the rear snapper, the other to the
right of it.
Other changes include the new Apple A8 chip under the hood, and the doubling of RAM to 2GB. The Touch ID fingerprint scanner will be embedded in the home button and Apple Pay will be included. The lack of NFC connectivity means that Apple's mobile payment service is limited to online purchases on the iPad Air 2. The rear camera is getting a bump to 8MP and there is talk of an upgrade on the front-facing shooter as well.
Apple is also rumored to be eliminating the 16GB option, offering 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models. And in addition to Black and Silver, a Gold version will be offered. Apple will be unveiling the Apple iPad Air 2 and the Apple iPad mini 3 on October 16th.
