50,000 Xiaomi MiPad tablets sell in less than four minutes

50,000 Xiaomi MiPad tablets sell in less than four minutes
On Thursday, we told you how Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that his company was ready to take on the Apple iPad. And to prove it, earlier this week the manufacturer released the Android powered Xiaomi MiPad in China. A challenger to the Apple iPad mini with Retina Display, the MiPad features a 7.9 inch IPS display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536. That works out to a pixel density of 326ppi. The NVIDIA K1 is under the hood with 2GB of RAM inside. 16/64GB of native storage is available, and for those requiring more storage, a 128GB capacity microSD slot is on board. Back and front-facing cameras weigh in at 8MP and 5MP respectively, and a 6700mAh battery keeps the lights on.

Of course, Xiaomi used the "Hunger Marketing" technique that it has perfected with its handsets. Hype the device, and sell a limited number online, that is a quick definition of the sales method that the upstart device maker has been using. With its new tablet, Xiaomi sold 50,000 units in 3 minutes and 59 seconds.

The 16GB model is priced at 1499 Yuan ($240 USD), while the 64GB slate will cost you 1699 Yuan ($270 USD). Of course, those who missed out on buying an Xiaomi MiPad this time, will be anxious to make the cut with the next sale. Xiaomi has not commented on whether it will offer the MiPad outside of its home market.
