The MacBook Air might be the best overall notebook you can buy, combining light weight, long battery life and strong performance. Normally, you can't find the 11.6-inch version of the Air for less than $899, but today eBay has it for just $749. The configuration on sale features a 4th Generation Intel Core i5 CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD with OS X 10.9 Mavericks preloaded.

A truly unique and compelling laptop, the ASUS Taichi is a 13.3-inch, 3.4-pound laptop with a second, full HD touch screen on the back of its lid. Fold the Taichi closed, and the back of the lid serves as a tablet. Open the Core-i5-powered laptop up and the back screen can show a presentation or movie to the person sitting across from you while you perform other tasks on the main display. Even if you're just using the Taichi as a standard laptop, its Core i5 CPU, 128GB SSD and gorgeous 1080p screen make it an incredible bargain. This impressive laptop used to cost well over $1,000 but NewEgg is selling it via eBay for just $529.

Lenovo ThinkPad T440s ($779)
Great for productivity, the Lenovo ThinkPad T440s is one of our favorite laptops, not just for business users but for anyone who needs to get work done. The 3.8-pound, 14-inch ultrabook  has the best keyboard of any notebook on the market, along with an accurate pointing stick, sharp screen and a battery life of 14 and a half hours. Right now, Lenovo.com is offering a discount on all configurations of the ThinkPad T440s. The base configuration, which normally goes for between $950 and $1,000 is now $779.22. However, we recommend configuring with a full HD display, a 128GB SSD (or bigger) and a 6-cell battery, which will take the price up to $962.52.

Savings: $100 to $200

If the 14-inch ThinkPad T440s seems a bit large for you or its 14 hours of battery life isn't quite enough, try the ThinkPad X240, which can last over 20 hours on a charge and weighs just 3.6 pounds with its extended battery (3.2 pounds with the standard unit). Like the T440s, the 12.5-inch X240 has a snappy keyboard, accurate trackpoint and  optional 1080p display screen. The ThinkPad X240 now starts at $740, with an Intel Core i3 CPU, 1366 x 768 display, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. Add an SSD, a Core i5 CPU, an extended battery and a 1080p touch screen, which raises the price to a still-reasonable $1,122.

Savings: $114 or more
